Office du Baccalauréat credential verification.

How VeriCam verifies a Baccalauréat or Probatoire issued by the Office du Baccalauréat du Cameroun — the statutory body administering Francophone secondary examinations. French correspondence with the OBC Registry, with physical archive follow-up in Yaoundé when digital channels are slow.

Francophone secondaryStatutory exam boardCentral candidate register

The Office du Baccalauréat du Cameroun (OBC) is the statutory body responsible for the Baccalauréat and Probatoire examinations in Cameroon's Francophone education sub-system. Based in Yaoundé, the OBC administers exams across the eight Francophone regions and maintains the canonical register of every candidate's results. Francophone Cameroonian school-leavers virtually all hold a Baccalauréat — making the OBC the highest-volume secondary-credential verification source in the country.

About the OBC

  • Type: Statutory body (public examination authority).
  • Headquarters: Yaoundé, Centre Region.
  • Working language: French.
  • Scope: Baccalauréat (général + technologique), Probatoire, plus subject-specific re-sit administration.
  • Issuing system: Series-based composite award (mention rendered as Très Bien / Bien / Assez Bien / Passable).

Credentials issued by the OBC

Probatoire

Sat at the end of première (the year before terminale). Not on its own a school-completion credential, but a prerequisite checkpoint for sitting the Baccalauréat. Series mirror those of the Baccalauréat (A1–A4, C, D, E, F1–F8, G, etc.). Recorded on the OBC register with matricule and mention.

Baccalauréat — séries générales

The general Baccalauréat awarded after terminale, with series differentiating the academic specialisation:

  • Bac A1–A4 — Literary / linguistic sub-series (A4 commonly weighted toward modern languages).
  • Bac C — Mathematics + physical sciences (heavy maths + physics).
  • Bac D — Mathematics + natural sciences (maths + biology / chemistry).
  • Bac E — Mathematics + applied technology.

Baccalauréat — séries techniques (Bac F & G)

Technical series:

  • Bac F1–F8 — Industrial / technical specialisations (mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, electronics, etc.).
  • Bac G1–G3 — Tertiary specialisations (G1 secrétariat, G2 quantitative techniques, G3 commercial techniques).

Mention scale

The Baccalauréat is awarded with a single composite mention reflecting the candidate's aggregate performance:

  • Très Bien — average ≥ 16/20.
  • Bien — average 14.00 – 15.99/20.
  • Assez Bien — average 12.00 – 13.99/20.
  • Passable — average 10.00 – 11.99/20.
  • Below 10/20 — fail.

How VeriCam verifies a Baccalauréat or Probatoire

1. Case intake with applicant consent

The requesting party submits the candidate's full legal name, date and place of birth, matricule (candidate number), academic year of exam, exam centre, certificate type (Probatoire / Baccalauréat), series, and a scanned copy of the certificate. The applicant signs a consent form authorising VeriCam to contact the OBC on their behalf.

2. Matricule + series matching

Matricule numbers are unique within an academic year. VeriCam's verification officer confirms that the matricule format and the series declared on the certificate are consistent with the OBC's known schema before despatching the verification request. Mismatched series (e.g. a candidate claiming Bac D but presenting a Bac G transcript) is an early fraud signal.

3. Outreach to the OBC Registry

The verification officer contacts the OBC's records office through the institution's published channels in French (the working language of the OBC). The request includes the candidate identity, matricule, year, centre, series, subjects and mention to be confirmed. The OBC responds with a confirmation, denial, or partial confirmation.

4. Local follow-up when digital channels are slow

Older results (more than 10 years) may require manual archive retrieval at the OBC's Yaoundé office. When digital responses are delayed beyond the documented attempt budget, VeriCam's Cameroon-based team conducts in-person follow-up at the OBC Registry. Every visit is documented on the case file.

5. Officer review and two-person sign-off

A trained verification officer adjudicates the outcome against the OBC's response. A supervisor approves the report under VeriCam's two-person rule. Suspected-fraud cases (forged matricule, fabricated series, mismatched mention) are escalated to compliance review.

6. Tamper-evident report issuance

VeriCam issues a verification report citing the channel of record (e.g. "Confirmé par l'Office du Baccalauréat du Cameroun le [date]"), the matricule and series confirmed, mention, officer and supervisor of record, and a QR code linking to a public re-verification page.

What the report cites

  • Candidate matricule + exam centre.
  • Academic year and certificate type (Probatoire / Baccalauréat).
  • Series (A4 / C / D / E / F-series / G-series).
  • Mention (Très Bien / Bien / Assez Bien / Passable).
  • Verification channel and date of confirmation.
  • Named verification officer + supervisor.

The public re-verification record does notexpose the underlying scanned certificate, candidate date or place of birth, or other sensitive applicant records.

For Cameroonian Francophone applicants

If you hold a Baccalauréat or Probatoire and need it verified for an international admissions, visa or employment process, the requester (the receiving institution) initiates the verification request. You'll sign a consent form authorising VeriCam to contact the OBC on your behalf — no documents are forwarded to third parties without your authorisation.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Office du Baccalauréat verify?
The Office du Baccalauréat du Cameroun (OBC) is the statutory body responsible for the Baccalauréat and Probatoire examinations in Cameroon's Francophone education sub-system. It maintains the canonical record of every candidate's examination results — including matricule (candidate number), exam centre, series (Bac A / C / D / E / F / G), subjects, marks and mention. Verification requests are confirmed against this central register.
Is verification done with the OBC, the secondary school, or MINESEC?
Verification is done with the OBC — not the lycée or collège where the candidate sat the exams, and not the Ministry of Secondary Education. Schools do not hold the canonical record. The OBC is the authoritative source for Baccalauréat and Probatoire results across all years.
What information do I need to verify a Baccalauréat result?
Candidate full legal name, date and place of birth, matricule (candidate number), academic year of examination, exam centre, certificate type (Probatoire or Baccalauréat), and the series (e.g. Bac A4, Bac C, Bac D, Bac F2, Bac G2). The original certificate or a clear scan helps the verification officer match the candidate to the OBC's record. Applicant consent is required before VeriCam contacts the OBC on the applicant's behalf.
How long does Baccalauréat verification take?
Realistic turnaround is 5 business days to 6 weeks. Recent year results (the last 5–10 years) are typically confirmed faster as they are digitally available. Older results may require manual retrieval from the OBC's archives, which extends the turnaround. Cases requiring in-person follow-up at the OBC's Yaoundé office may take longer.
What is the difference between the Probatoire and the Baccalauréat?
The Probatoire is sat at the end of première (the year before the final year of secondary school) and is not on its own a school-completion credential. The Baccalauréat is sat at the end of terminale (final year) and is the standard credential for entry to Francophone universities. Candidates hold both at the point of university entry; verification can target either or both, and the OBC maintains records for both.
