The University of Yaoundé I (Université de Yaoundé I, UY1) is the oldest and largest state university in Cameroon, originating in 1962 as the Federal University of Cameroon and reorganised as UY1 in 1993. UY1 is a Francophone institution issuing credentials across arts, sciences, medicine, engineering and teacher training. Its credentials are common on international admissions, immigration and licensing files. This page describes how VeriCam verifies a UY1 credential from abroad.

How VeriCam verifies a UY1 credential

1. Case intake with applicant consent

The requesting party submits the applicant's full legal name, date and place of birth, programme of study, year of graduation, credential reference number (if printed), and a scanned copy of the credential. The applicant signs a consent form authorising VeriCam to contact UY1 on their behalf.

2. Distinguishing UY1 from UY2 (and other named entities)

UY1 and the University of Yaoundé II (Soa) are separate institutions with distinct credentials. UY2 focuses on law, economics, management and political science. VeriCam's verification officer confirms the issuing entity is UY1 — and not a similarly-named private institution operating in Yaoundé — before routing the request.

3. Outreach to the Scolarité Centrale

University-issued credentials are confirmed through the Scolarité Centrale / Service des Diplômes, the institution's Service for student records and diploma issuance. For ENS and ENSP credentials, requests are routed to the respective school's scolarité. Correspondence is in French (the working language of the institution) and includes the credential reference, applicant identity and the specific issuance facts to be confirmed.

4. Archive retrieval and physical follow-up

UY1 holds a substantial historical archive, and credentials issued more than a decade ago may require manual file retrieval from physical archives. When the digital scolarité response is delayed beyond the documented attempt budget, VeriCam's Cameroon-based team conducts in-person follow-up at the Scolarité Centrale to assist file retrieval. Every visit is documented on the case file with actor, channel, timestamp and outcome.

5. Officer review and two-person sign-off

A trained verification officer adjudicates the outcome against the institutional response. A supervisor approves the report under VeriCam's two-person rule before issuance.

6. Tamper-evident report issuance

VeriCam issues a verification report with a verification ID, the channel of record (e.g. "Confirmed by UY1 Scolarité Centrale on [date] via institutional email"), officer and supervisor of record, and a QR code linking to a public re-verification page.

What the report cites — and what it never exposes

  • Credential reference number on the institutional record.
  • Programme of study / faculty / école.
  • Year of award and mention (Très Bien / Bien / Assez Bien / Passable).
  • Verification channel and date of confirmation.
  • Named verification officer + supervisor.

The public re-verification record does not expose the underlying scanned credential, transcript content, or sensitive applicant records.

For UY1 applicants and alumni

If you hold a UY1 credential and need it verified for an international admissions, visa, licensing or employment process, the requester (the receiving institution) initiates the verification request. You'll sign a consent form authorising VeriCam to contact the Scolarité on your behalf — no documents are forwarded to third parties without your authorisation.
